HOW HIGHS THE WATER MAMA?

Below are some shots from Margaretville, NY (home to my and Gid's parents) that I lifted from Facebook. It doesn't look like it's going to get better anytime soon. Good luck and be safe.

Movie//Our Idiot Brother

Loved the Zoey Deschanel and Rashida Jones coupling and Jones' little boy preppy style...

Thankfully, we've not been washed away by Irene's rains -- yet. After indulging in some extra pillow time with coffee, jazz, and Walt, we're going to seek out the Sunday Times, more coffee, and yolks+toast.

Stay cozy and dry.

OVER EASY, OVERDUE

I'm busybusy, but week 1 of the semester was a success!

Mama and Papa visited this past week to provide a long overdue remodeling of our first floor bathroom. I'll share pictures when it's complete!

Unfortunately, I didn't document some beautiful meals and experiences over the past week, but I did remember to snap a shot of a delicious Gideon-made brunch. we've been enjoying so many delicious tomatoes.  <3

To counter a Missouri high school’s ban on Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five, the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library in Indianapolis is offering free copies of the book to students at Republic High School. Read more...

Really? We're still banning books?

CRUNCHY + CREAMY

Uh-oh. I was afraid of this. I just completed my orientation for a second teaching position, and the reality of a ridiculously busy semester is setting in. I'm excited to say that I will finally be working full-time as a college instructor - at least, for this semester. But with six classes and quite a bit of commuting, I'll have to put my cooking fun on the back burner. I have a feeling my meals and cooking are going to be quick and dirty from here on in.

Example: a dinner of fried tofu over quinoa pasta. The tofu was not pretty, but it was delicious. I seasoned the breadcrumbs with copious amounts of dried basil, a bit of garlic powder, and s+p. We put this over the pasta sauced with lemon, parmesan and cream with peas. After a long day, technique goes out the window... for now...until I get in the swing of things... or find a balance.
On a sad note, we didn't harvest our peaches in time. Hundreds of mini-peaches have fallen - deer food.

THE WAITING

...is the hardest part. And I didn't wait long enough before I popped the raw garlic in my mouth - definitely not pickled yet. (Pickled carrots, onion, and our homegrown garlic.)

(DIS)COMFORT FOOD

When no one is looking, no one is judging, and your most secret cravings can come out, what do you eat?

Sometimes, I eat like a ten year old child. Not only do I like to eat crap, I like to eat a lot of it. Yup, that's an American grilled cheese sandwich with tomato, chips, carrot chunks and coffee. Two more cups of coffee and five more slices of cheese later, I was sick. Moderation is not a word in my vocabularly. I'm an all or nothing kind of gal. Goodbye cheese?
